want to change the garage into a pet care facility – do i need perimission?

Hi,
my sister wants to change her garage into a Pet Care facility to look after various pets while their owners are on holiday etc.
does she need permission from the council or checks from the rspca etc, will she need to have a sink installed etc…
thanks

It's not that simple, first she would have to apply for a change of use and her neighbours would have to be consulted, then she would need to register the garage as a business and pay business rates, then she would need to apply to the local council and Trading Standards for pet shop licensing as she would be keeping pets commercially.

There is a set of rules that state how much cage space each animal requires, as she couldn't mix rodents or birds from different owners, each would need it's own cage and in such a small area there would be a lot of natural aggression from already stressed pets.

She couldn't use the same sink she uses for food preparation for commercial animal husbandry. The rules are all against her on such a small scale.

Ask at your local Council Office – the Planning Officer will explain all the red tape.

YES!!! she is going to have a health inspector, and dog inspector come in after she has done renovations. She will need to keep records and be ready for suprise inspections. There is also zoning issues, and city ordinances to deal with.
