What activities do male senior citizens want to participate in or have assistance with?

I am working at a senior center (planning activities), it seems that females participate more than males in the activities (research also supports that). I am here trying to get some ideas from male senior citizens to improve their attendance and interest in the center. All activities considered.

I think women tend to be more social than men by nature. Men are conscious of their diminished capabilities and don’t like to be in public. Women age more gracefully. Men like doing things like fishing, bowling, gardening or making things. Some like creative activities. The best thing to do would be to conduct a survey of things a man likes doing and put them on the survey as many as you can think of. Plus have on the survey a few open lines where the men can put what isn’t listed.

Domino games (easier to handle than cards)
    Fishing trip
Gardening – use large pots or raised beds so people in wheelchairs or those who use walkers can participtate

OOPS! I just noticed you only wanted to hear from male senior citizens. I have had male relatives and friends who enjoyed the activities I mentioned.

Perhaps your first step should be to ask them. I am sure they would like to contribute to what they would like. Perhaps a movie day of westerns and war movies.

I hold monthly pancake breakfast for men only. Have a speaker from the college to come over (free of charge) and speak on a topic they would enjoy. Pancake, sausuage, coffee $1.00 great deal for the men to chat and get to know eachother too…

    Hope this helps
