What would senior citizens like to see on the market or a certain product that would benefit them?

So I'm trying to find a product that would appeal to senior citizens and they would be willing to buy it. The company I'm creating would also be internet based so it could be some sort of service as well. Any ideas would be appreciated!

The first things to come to mind are new improved inventions to help
people with mobility problems. Perhaps to invent a powered chair
that isn't as large to enable them to get around in smaller spaces.
Something on the order of an electric scooter that can maneuver
around furniture easily. You wouldn't need a large motor for something that would move more slowly indoors rather than outside. But you
could take it outside as well, if there were good traction tires.
Improved shower and tub handles or bars is anOther needed thing.
Those I've seen are ugly, tho they are necessities for some. I'm now
in the position of needing help to get in and out of showers with
something to hold onto that is longer than those available now. Maybe
you could study what there is on the market, and find ways to im-
prove them for more practibility and attractiveness.

What do I need to start a senior companion caregiver jobs business?

I'm interesting in starting a senior companion business to take seniors out for meals, to the movies, grocery shopping, to the barber or hair salon. This service will only be for seniors who are able to walk without assistance.

Go to http://www.score.org/ to find the nearest SCORE chapter. In the upper left hand corner is a box to enter your zip code. Your nearest SCORE chapter will be on the next screen. Contact them to arrange for a free one on one meeting with a SCORE counselor about starting a senior companion business.

SCORE is a nonprofit organization. They provide a public service by offering small business advice and training.

SCORE's 10,500 volunteers have more than 600 business skills. Volunteers share their wisdom and lessons learned in business. The volunteers are working/retired business owners, executives and corporate leaders.

What activities do male senior citizens want to participate in or have assistance with?

I am working at a senior center (planning activities), it seems that females participate more than males in the activities (research also supports that). I am here trying to get some ideas from male senior citizens to improve their attendance and interest in the center. All activities considered.

I think women tend to be more social than men by nature. Men are conscious of their diminished capabilities and don’t like to be in public. Women age more gracefully. Men like doing things like fishing, bowling, gardening or making things. Some like creative activities. The best thing to do would be to conduct a survey of things a man likes doing and put them on the survey as many as you can think of. Plus have on the survey a few open lines where the men can put what isn’t listed.

What should I do to start home care services for elders?

I am planning to start a care home in the US – for elderly to be specific. The problem is I don’t know much about the regulations and guidelines that I have to follow to start this particular venture. Any advice about any organization or place that can help me further is highly appreciated…

I'm very glad that you decided to start a care home for elderly:)Firstly you should find all useful information and of course people who could help you doing such work. You can visit http://www.health.state.ny.us and I hope you will find there some interesting and gainful information.Good luck;)

I need to know what kind of questions to expect for an interview, for an elderly in home health care position?

I need to know what to expect during an elderly home companionship interview?

2 of the most asked ?'s are cooking and do you do think you would like it here. A big tip for you. If you would like for them to know you care, ask them about their interests. It's important that you find " a common" ground. It will let them know that you are concerned about their well being. They will be impressed to know that your likes are theirs. Most of all, be yourself, very relaxed.

Introducing Your Kitten To Resident Pets

Kittens are only kittens for a year, but this short time is the most significant stage of a cat's development. "Kitten ownership can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life, so it's worth it to prepare ahead of time for every aspect of kitten care," said Dr. Sueda.

How do you find out for sure if somebody is guilty of elder abuse when you live in a different state?

My sister is my moms in home health care provider and in the past few years my brothers and I believe that she has been taking advantage of my mom financially and emotionally. My mom no longer talks to any of us any more and we have no way to really check up on her. My daughter (then 17) visited out there this year for several months and says that my sister is always yelling bad things at my mom like "You would be happy if I just killed myself? I should just kill myself!" (My sister has slashed her wrists and done a couple of Other things that could be perceived as suicide attempts in the past.) My daughter said that my sister very seldomly get s off of the computer and that when my mom says that she is hungry my sister does not cook for her. My Mom is on dialysis 3 days a week, is 64 years old, and has been in bad health for a while. My brothers and I do not know what to do and and suspect my sister of abuse, although not physical. What should we do?

If your mother is receiving Social Security benefits, contact your nearest office. They will forward your information to the office which services your mother's address.

You can also contact the welfare office which has jurisdiction over your mother's address. Ask for adult protective services & tell them about your suspicions. I'm not familiar with how the welfare offices work, but maybe your local office will forward information to the proper office.

Doing both of the above will take care of the problem. I do know that the welfare office sends someone to the home.

When I worked for Social Security I often contacted Adult Protective Services.

How to make a dependent elder feel independent in homecare?

My grandmother has always been a very strong, independent woman. At 75, she was traveling the world by herself – to China, Ireland, Rome, Hawaii and many other places. Now she is 82, has diabetes, and has recently had some back surgery done that has given her a lame leg and a very sore back and made her totally dependent. She even has to use a walker just to get around. I take her to the gym every day to help her with physical therapy, but she is completely shaken at the loss of her independence. How can I take care of my grandmOther and still help her feel independent?

Let her make choices and perhaps finding a group for her or contacting some of her friends to help do things. Also she is at the age of 82 and she may not feel the strength of trying to get back to her young active self. If she seems depressed try talking to her doctor, sometimes medical personal can "get through" to people when they wont listen to family. Goodluck and I hope she finds activities to help build her strength

What steps would you need to take in order to move an elder patient from one state to another?

Currently, an elder patient lives in CA and needs to be moved to TX in an assisted living or geriatric home. She needs better care than the current relative can provide 24 hours a day. Another problem is the unwillingness of the siblings to cooperate and do what's best for the relative. Other relatives in TX are willing to provide more care and attention if the eldest relative lived closer, ie, the need for the transfer of resident care.

I am sorry that find yourself in this tough situation, yet this patient is fortunate to have you involved in helping them.

The first step is to find resources that might help you get the information you need. Mrs Z's advice is very good. It is also possible that rules concerning situations such as this vary from state to state–so talking to knowledgable experts about this situation in both states might be a good idea before moving too far too fast. Getting "buy in" from family members before making a decision, at some level would also be a good idea. Here are a few ideas for you.

If the patient you are trying to assist is age 60 or over, the first stop for information about this would be the local Area Agency on Aging serving the community in California where the patient lives and the community in Texas where re-location is being considered. These organizations are one of the 'best kept secrets" for older Americans and family caregivers. Staff there know how to listen to seniors and their family members and can provide guidance and advice about resources and possible solutions that may be of great help to you and/or possibly the current relative of the patient who is currently providing care. You can call 1-800-677-1116 toll free to find the phone number and Other contact informaton of the Area Agency on Aging offices serving the locations in California and Texas.

When you call the Area Agency office, ask for the person who provides "Information and Assistance" or "Help for Family Caregivers." If you make this call, I am confident that you will find friendly and helpful people.

Area Agencies on Aging have specific services that help familes of older people and their caregivers–so ask about services that might be helpful in your situation. Most Area Agencies on Aging also have experts available or on staff who know about power of attorney questions. Many also have experts who can help families address care coordination issues.

If you call your local Area Agency on Aging and like the help that you receive, let your county elected officials know and tell your members of Congress. Area Agencies don't have big budgets–in fact appropriations for most services funded under the Older Americans Act have not increased significantly in 25 years! You will not be charged for the information you receive, however, any financial contribution you might make for the time and assistance devoted to your parents' situation would be very welcomed– and would go toward helping more of your older friends and neighbors and their caregivers.

I truly hope this helps you, your family and the patient who is needing help. Best wishes and good luck!

normally when a person goes into a nursing home and does not have the money to pay there way medicare will cover the first 30 days after that the state will take the ss check as payment and also attach any property in that person's name to be sold upon death to off set bills!!!

24 hr elder care (individual) nurse i guess..please..anyone…just at least look please..?

my cousin has his big sixteenth bday coming up in a couple of weeks and my grandparents live in florida…we and her r both crushed they cant come, but my grandpa is really sick, and my grandma just doesn;t want him to come because she thinks he would be embarrassed..he is mentally gone….is there any trustworthy business like at a hospital that has nurses 4 things like this where they could like baby sit him for just a day?…like 24 7 him…like not where they just check up on him, but an individual dedicated 2 him the whole day?…please.any suggestions r really appreciated! thnks!

Yes these services exist but can be difficult to pinpoint qualified caregivers. What you're looking for is referred to as a respite caregiver or someone who takes over care for a short period of time.
There are generally either in-home or hospital type options.
Good luck!

How much to charge for pet daycare?

I am pet sitting 2 Pomeranians ogs amd a cat for 3 days. What I have to do for them is feed them and take them out to go to the bathroom and play with them 4 times a day. They are pretty nice and don't have an attitude. How much would you charge for that?

for cats my fee is 10 dollars since i only have to feed and they do the rest. for dogs its 15 since i have to walk em and playing with em is free since if its a friendly dog ill do it anyway. so around 40 bucks a day. or if they say its too much since its 3 animals take 5 or 10 off for a total of 30-40 a day

elder care? My husband's mom will be moving in with us and we will convert our den into a room for her?

complete with a private bathroom. I think we should hire someone to check on her daily. She has two hip replacements and recently shattered her shoulder. She refuses to go to a sr. citizen home (she would have to share a room) and she is too well for a nursing home. She cannot afford to live in assisted living and we cannot pay for it either. She is also bulimic (throws up her food) and I am uncomfortable with her being alone in the house even with the emergency button on her person in case she needs help. My husband and I both work and the kids are in school and I'm just afraid we will come home to find Grandma sprawled on the floor unconscious or worse. She has been falling on flat surfaces as of late and I just think some kind of companion who will make her a meal and help her with her laundry or take her to a store would be in order. Just a couple of hours a day to make sure she's as independent as she can be but not alone. My husband doesn't think its necessary.

Your assessment is probably right on. AnOther possible option might be attendance at a senior day care facility where they would fix her a meal and she would have companionship during the day plus activities. Many communities have senior transportation to and from day care so you wouldn't have to transport her. She just might enjoy it.

What is the going rate for house and pet sitting services?

What is the going rate for house and pet sitting? I have been doing house and pet sitting off and on for the past year and a half and I never know what is a reasonable rate to charge for my time.

I thought it was free but that is for a live in position where your living rent free and free utilities such as http://house-sit.info

Otherwise if your just visiting once a day to check mail and feed the pets etc but living outside the house then it should be paid depends on how much you will have to do and the tasks such as feeding walking pets having to be there at a set time for repair men coming etc
you would have to work the contract out with the owner pertailing to all that is involved
